Olive’s Legacy

Our Story

In 2007, the most amazing creature came into our life -- her name was Olive.  Olive was a potbellied pig and at less than 6 weeks old, she didn't know how much she would change our world.  We rearranged our life for Olive to ensure that she had everything a spoiled pig could ever want or need. - and yes, there is actually something called "spoiled pig syndrome (SPS)" in pet pigs.  Drop us an email if you would like to learn more!  For the first 5 years, our family was complete.  Olive was amazing and we couldn't imagine our lives without her.  Then one day we saw a story on the news that a family was being forced to re-home their pet pig because the local zoning laws in their area had changed and pet pigs were no longer allowed.  That was NOT an option for us and so the dream of Hidden Pond Farm was born.

We lucked out when we found an 11 acre former sheep farm near Lake Anna, Virginia.  The 1900 era house needed A LOT of work but the land was beautiful and the location was perfect.  Best of all, it was zoned agricultural so Olive would be assured of a forever home.  The first few years we dedicated our time to making the house safe for her and our dogs but we were also busily planting the orchard with mostly heirloom varieties of apples, pears, plums, peaches, persimmons, cherries, figs, and paw paws.  We also added the pond, a wild flower meadow, vegetable/herb gardens and a garden focused on growing premium cut-flowers.

Hidden Pond Farm was created to ensure that Olive would always have a safe home but not all pet pigs are that lucky.  When you support Hidden Pond Farm you are helping to increase awareness of the epidemic of unwanted pet pigs (and the unscrupulous practices of "breeders") and supporting pig sanctuaries that are committed to ensuring that all pet pigs have a safe, forever home.  Thank you for joining us on our journey!
